Sintra, Cabo da Roca and Cascais
Sintra is a fascinating city just outside of Lisbon, that offers a huge range of monuments, endless natural sceneries and all the Portuguese charm you can handle.
Our day-trip to Sintra starts in the morning by visiting one or two of our suggested Palaces (see the list below) and a walk in cobblestone streets of the historical city center. The famous pastry “travesseiro”, baked in one of the oldest bakeries in Lisbon, will help you to feel like one of the poets that fell in love with the location, such as Aleister Crowley or Hemingway.
From there we will drive to witness the power of the waves in the Atlantic coastal line and check some of the local fisherman villages and beaches, getting to know not just the city centre but also the places where locals spend their summers. Lunch can be in one of our favourite spots next to the Atlantic Ocean (not included).
Then we will head on over to the most western point of Europe, the Roca Cape, where as Camões (a famous Portuguese poet from the 16th century) put it the “the land ends and the sea begins”…
After let’s head on over to Cascais to check out Hell’s Mouth, a landscape where the ocean shows its strength and witness how Cascais is a favourite for people from Lisbon to escape for the beach. Also, let’s head on over to try our favourite icecream.
